At this point it's hard to imagine Elvis Costello making a les than great album. Perhaps Almost Blue would be termed merely enjoyable, but I could make a case for any one of his other six LPs (even the compilation Taking Liberties) as containing his best work. Now add Imperial Bedroom, Costello's eighth U.S. album, to the list of his best.

Costello, with brilliant help from his untouchable band The Attractions, has crafted a remarkable 50 minutes of crazy pop,
