Elvis makes a country and western album in much the same style as John Lennon made a rock 'n' roll album in '74: two great craftsmen offering an appreciation of a type of traditional music they both respect and adore. And only someone of Costello's ability could make it work. A dozen old songs with all the colour pumped back into them, served up as a cool classic country beat overlayed with swooning steel guitars. An LP so seductive that almost every track would make as pure a single as "Good Year For The Roses". Listen in.
