Sounds 1977 albums of the year
Sounds
Yes! Only a few lines of type separate you from the most eagerly-awaited honours list in show business. In time-honoured tradition, the seers and sages/savages who comprise the Sounds staff were asked to list their ten favourite albums in order of preference. Editor Alan Lewis (no relation) was then locked in a hermetically-sealed capsule and lowered to the sea bed beneath the polar ice-cap to begin computing the results. Awarding each album 10 points for being nominated as a first choice, nine points for a second choice, and so on, and so on, and helped only by a team of Mormon schoolgirl "accountants," he came up with the following list...

The year of the single
Sounds
The year of the single? You're not kidding. Last year, when the idea of a top twenty singles was broached, only a couple of the Sounds staff were remotely interested. Now they're so hot on the idea of seven (or twelve, this also being the year of overstatement) inches of black, purple, sky blue pink or whatever vinyl, that they've come up with a list of a hundred of the little bleeders. In times of economic strictures even us journalists who get most of our records for free have realised that singles are better value — why waste forty minutes of your precious life when you can get the fun in a three minute blast.
This list was compiled by Dave Brown from the assorted choices of all of the drunkards, drug addicts, perverts and creeps that put finger to typewriter for the rag. And, of course, there must be another two or three hundred that probably deserved to have had their picture in here too.
