| He calls himself Elvis, looks like Buddy Holly and has been singing for 35 years of love, death, sex and television. Again and again Elvis Costello shines doing in the role of the cynic, the romantic or - as in "The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook" - the game show host.
| |
|
| |
| Where only start at the rave about this unique singer and songwriter? Maybe when "Watching The Detectives", this one bouncing back and forth humming bass-driven film noir reggae, tells of a girl who prefers the TV detective series of the reality. Or in the bitter Ode on request called "I Want You", this intimate song skeleton obsessions issues so relentlessly? In pop hits like "Alison" or "Veronica"? In his flirtations with the Easy Listening, the Soul, the Country? Or maybe in the wonderful idea of turning pop concerts in shrill television game shows.
| |
|
| |
| 25 years ago Elvis Costello has first made a colorful giant wheel of fortune on the stage, with which the audience can decide for themselves about the song choice of the evening. Now he celebrates "The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook," the return of Song Book-wheel of fortune - transforming his concerts again in comical interactive games, somewhere between 80s-TV-Games show and dim Burlesque Revue, including go-go girls.
| |
|
| |
| Unlike the lucky wheels that come on the fair or in infomercials on television for use, there are at Elvis Costello's Spinning Songbook but no rivets: only a selection of 40 great songs, a few jokers in which those of 57 year-old brings to the stage, may want a song. If the pointer on the wheel of fortune in fields such as "Time", "Girl" or "Happy" stops Costello decides which of the songs in his huge store that contains the word, he speitl. And no matter where the wheel stops amusing it is definitely.
| |
|
| |
| Not only at this stage show proves Costello his love for television. So he has been in a 1980 TV spot quietschbuntem hired as a carnival barker for his album "Get Happy !!". He was an unemployed folk musician in "Frasier", played himself as a member of a self-help group in "Two And A Half Man" and settled in the finale of the third season of the sitcom "30 Rock" by Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) bequatschen, together with Mary J. Blige and Sheryl Crow to give a dubious benefit concert. But just because Donaghy claimed to know the truth about Elvis Costello: namely, that his name was in fact Declan MacManus and around the world is art thief sought by police. At least that's true with the name.
| |
|
| |
| But back to the Wheel of Fortune: a foretaste of what awaits at the concert in October, the last live CD, which is published in 2012. There's the funny twist end "I Hope You're Happy Now", the wacky new wave of "Radio Radio", the affectionate grooving pop "Everyday I Write The Book", the aufstampfende powerpop of "Tear Off Your Own Head (It's A revolution) ", in which Costello sings a duet with Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles, the wonderfully sentimental ballad" Give Me Strength ", the incredible" Watching the Detectives ". . . So many good songs that you almost forget to stop swarms.
