The Ryko Armed Forces lists PL&U with a question mark, but the Columbia cd does not.
Which way should we do it? -- JohnH

JohnE 16:01, 26 March 2006 (CST): From memory, the Ryko re-releases fixed a few problems that occurred with the initial releases. I think it is with a ?, but could be corrected on that. I have always included the ? on the EC Home Page.
I went with the question mark because that's how it appears on both the Ryko and Rhino CDs.--Nunki 11:12, 17 May 2006 (CDT)

Image naming

  • Perhaps a general naming convention would be good to start with, and then expand into the specific types. Included in this could be guidelines for the different types: large, small, thumb, with rough or preferred dimensions. - JohnE 18:24, 26 March 2006 (CST)
Agreed. -- JohnH 19:53, 26 March 2006 (CST)
  • Naming of Albums sems different to the rest of the naming scheme, as Album is spelt with a capital letter, whereas other image types take a lower case, e.g. concert, ticket. - JohnE 18:12, 26 March 2006 (CST)
Yeah, I was uploading files and making up a convention at the same time, resulting in inconsistencies. Once we have it in concrete, I'll go back and fix those. -- JohnH 19:53, 26 March 2006 (CST)
  • The examples of Album naming given for Costello & Nieve do not contain Album as is required by the naming convention. Is this an oversight? - JohnE 18:24, 26 March 2006 (CST)
I'll go back and fix those too. -- JohnH 19:53, 26 March 2006 (CST)
  • Bibliography images: I think country should only be used where there are magazines with the same name available in different countries. In these cases the coutnry should come after the mazine name:

1983-09_Rolling_Stone_Australia_magazine_cover_large.jpg
Agreed. When I scribbled that earlier, I was thinking of something else (the ability to find articles by country, which of course has nothing to do with image names). (And we could have biblo Categories for country, to solve that.) -- JohnH 19:53, 26 March 2006 (CST)
  • Question: Is it possible to renaming an image once it has been uploaded and inserted into a page? - JohnE 18:24, 26 March 2006 (CST)
Not that I've found, and I've looked long several times. Seems odd that articles can be renamed, but not images). -- JohnH 19:53, 26 March 2006 (CST)

Singles

Has anyone given any thought to naming conventions/organization for singles? I've been avoiding adding them to the song pages until we can decide the best way of doing it. Organization is the key, especially in cases of multi-part singles (like the London's Brilliant Parade singles), with different track configurations on the various formats. It could get unwieldy very quickly. Perhaps a "London's Brilliant Parade (single)" page, or something to that effect, which will then contain all of the variants? The "Release Information" sections of the album pages on the Graphical Discography on the old home page are so elegant in how the different releases are organized, I'm hoping we can come up with as good a solution here. I'm anxious to hear any thoughts/ideas on this anyone may have. -- CraigM 23:10, 13 May 2006 (CDT)

Naming convention for reviews

Copied from discussion page of The River In Reverse

I have had a stab at a naming convention for reviews. The idea I had was to provide an unambiguous name for the review that is easy to understand and hopefully find in the future.

Here is my suggestion:

Review: The River In Reverse, Sunday Times, 2006-06-04

which is made up of the following parts:

Review:
        Album Name (in full),
                     Magazine or Source,
Date Article Published (in format YYYY-MM-DD)

Questions:

  1. Should it be "Review:" or "Album review:"?
  2. What about when there are magazines with the same name in different countries?
  3. What if there are more than one review from a magazine on one day? Is this possible?
  4. What if published date is not known?
  5. What if it is not EXACTLY an album review, but a general article also?

JohnH: thoughts...

1. Should it be "Review:" or "Album review:"?

Perhaps "Album" isn't needed because the inclusion of the album name might imply it's an album review;
plus, every word counts in these potentially long page names:

And now that I see the examples above, maybe the word "Review:" is unecessary too: (If these were the page names, could they imply anything but album reviews?:)

2. What about when there are magazines with the same name in different countries?
3. What if there are more than one review from a magazine on one day? Is this possible?
4. What if published date is not known?

I think optionally including the author, magazine country, and/or yyyy-mm-dd or yyyy-mm or yyyy in the page name can solve 2 and 3 and if the date is not known, leave it off, or include the best-guess year:

5. What if it is not EXACTLY an album review, but a general article also?

Dunno.
