"Girls Talk" is from the _Get Happy!!_ sessions.
        Produced by Nick Lowe.
According to 'Record Collector' (#91): "This was the most sought-after
collector's item of early 1980, which offended the law of gravity by
gradually becoming more common instead of less. Costello had been
signed to Radar in 1978, via a licensing deal from Riviera Global
Productions. Radar collapsed towards the end of 1979, and so Elvis's
manager Jake Riviera alighted upon the Specials' 2-Tone label as an
ideal venue for a holding operation - a one-off single - until Elvis
sorted out a deal for the _Get Happy!!_ album. WEA, who had
distributed Radar, were less than delighted: they felt they had a
steak in Costello's career by virtue of the success of the records
they had distributed for him, and so they obtained a court injunction
to stop the 2-Tone single being sold. By March '80, the situation was
clarified: F-Beat was set up by Riviera as an independent company, but
WEA continued to distribute their records. In the meantime, there were
several thousand 2-Tone singles to dispose of. These were handed out
free to the audience at a London's Rainbow Theatre gig. Several months
later, Riviera pressed up a few thousand more of the 2-Tone singles,
and these were given away at London and US gigs. By this time, however,
the single had been issued with the catalogue no. F-Beat XX-1. As this
new number had replaced the 2-Tone number in the runoff grooves, the
second batch of 2-Tone singles carried the F-Beat number, whereas the
original copies had 'TT-7' as their matrix number. Copies from the
first batch are now worth about twice as much ones from the second."
According to Krista Reese's EC book the total number of 2-Tone singles
pressed was 13,000, and the remaining copies were sold at NY Palladium
        1981 concerts for $3.00 each.
(It seems that some copies of the 2-Tone 'reissue' have 'CHS TT7' and
'XX1' in the runoff, and also 'CHS TT8' crossed out on both sides.
        Reached #4 in UK charts

Initially a UK cassette only release, released in the US as _Taking
Liberties_. Original cassette copies were made of gold plastic and
        came in a gold case.
This version of "Radio Sweetheart" is a slightly different mix to the
original version (B-side of "Less Than Zero" 7"). It does not have the
backing vocals singing "Oooooh" at the start of the line "Hope in the
        eyes..." near the start.
The CD version has a typo in the song list which reads "Balck And
        White World".
UK: Went silver (60,000 copies) (date unkown).

Stiff reissue of their early singles (also sold separately).
The first 5000 pressings came in a brown box.
On the labels the copyright is given as "Stiff Records" instead of the
original "Stiff Records Ltd". There is an extra etching in the runoff
groove "LYN xxxx" (where xxxx goes from 7473 (for BUY 11 a-side) to
7492 (for BUY 20 b-side)). The original runoff messages (e.g. "Elvis
is King") remain. (Except that some copies of BUY11 have "A Porky
Perfection" and "Elvis is King on This Side Too" on side A, and "Elvis
is King" and "A Porky Prime Cut" on side B. The covers have a smaller,
elliptical, cutout on the back compared to the original, and the
"Delga" maker's mark is missing from the BUY 11 & BUY 15 covers (the
BUY 14 & BUY 20 covers never had a maker's mark). Later issues carry
the words "Made in England" on the labels.

original 'Stiff Records Ltd'. There is a stamped "AY 50332" in the
runoff groove of all 4 singles, and the original runoff messages do
not appear. The covers have an elliptical cutout on the back that's
even smaller than the one on the _Stiff Box Set No.2_ reissues, except
the BUY 15 ('Stiff') sleeve which is identical to the _Stiff Box Set
No.2_ sleeve. The is no "Delga" mark on the BUY 11 & BUY 15 covers and
the photo on the BUY 20 sleeve is beginning to look decidedly sepia!
BUY 20 has the words "Made in England" on the label.

        Produced by Billy Sherrill.
The CD version has the correct title for "How Much I've Lied", and
lists "Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down" as simply "The Bottle Let Me
Down". It also has some incorrect track credits ("Brown To Blue
[Mathis]" & "Good Year For The Roses [Chestnut]"). The US/Canada
versions of the LP have the US spelling of colour (color) in the title
        of "Colour Of The Blues".
The LP came in 4 different coloured covers; blue/pale blue, blue/pink,
blue/green, & blue/yellow, and some copies had a sticker saying either
"WARNING. This album contains country & western music and may cause
offence to narrow minded listeners" or simply "The new album from
        Elvis Costello and The Attractions".
The original version of "I'm Your Toy" by the Flying Burrito Brothers
was simply called "Hot Burrito No.1".
Reached #7 in UK charts, & #50 in the US.

names stamped (in black, blue & red ink) and their signatures in
various colours. The back has the tracklist and times printed in black
on blue paper. The cover lists the keyboard player as Steve Neive.
The US cover is plain black, some with a square red on white sticker

"Psycho is based on a series killings in 1966 by a 25-year-old
University of Texas graduate student, Charles Whitman, who went
berserk with a rifle, killing 20 people & injuring another 28
including his ex-wife, her new boyfriend, some small chilren & a
puppy. The murderer's conversation throughout the song ("You think
I'm psycho, dincha, Mama?") draws on the fact that Whitman knew he
was going out of his mind, tried to get help and left a death note
asking for an autopsy which he hoped would absolve him of blame by
proving he was mad." - from UK magazine 'Q' (Aug-95).

This is a double LP in a single LP sleeve. Before each track EC
describes the writing, recording, arranging and mixing of the record
in enormous detail - explaining the thinking behind otherwise
impenetrable lyrics. The front cover contains the same David Bailey
photo as on the "Man Out Of Time" 12". These were numbered on the
back, and most were signed by EC on the front in blue felt pen.

EC wanted this single out fast, before the general election, while
F-Beat was undergoing a change of distribution. For this he formed a
new label and issued it as "The Imposter". Originally, the single was
only going to be available for less than a week, and planned to be
deleted on the eve of the general election. The first pressing was of
only 15,000 copies, but finally a total of 160,000 copies were pressed.
This song was slightly remixed for the album.
In the extended version the chorus "Give me the needle/Give me the
rope..." is sung twice just before the "Four and twenty crowbars..."
verse. This is done by splicing in the third chorus of the regular
        version.
        Reached #16 in UK charts.
