Thanet rock fans have been snubbed by rock superstar Elvis Costello, who has cancelled his Margate Winter Gardens date next month.
He was due to have played the venue on October 24, but the gig has been scrapped in favour of a second date at the Hammersmith Palais in London.
Winter Gardens theatre manager David Bill told me: "I am bitterly disappointed about the way Costello's promoters, PLP, have treated us.
"Apparently the Hammersmith date on the 23rd is sold out and they thought it better to cancel our gig and put on an extra show in London.
"This is the second time Costello's Thanet fans have been let down. He was due to play at the Winter Gardens last April but pulled out. The Thanet fans, who are very loyal, have had a raw deal.
"The first I heard of the cancellation was when an irate punter called to say he had seen a poster advertising the London gig on the same date as ours.
"PLP have not been particularly co-operative and we have received little help in publicising the concert.
"This sort of letdown only serves to undermine our credibility as a top venue for major bands after the council and local fans have supported such events so well in the
past."
Ticket refunds for the Costello concert are available from the Winter Gardens box office.
