Comments: This is the fifth time I've seen Elvis, and it was my favourite concert of his yet. The first part of the show involved people being pulled up on stage to spin the giant wheel of songs, with Elvis playing the song the wheel stopped on. Lots of nice selections, especially "Chelsea." After an hour he said he had to go, then came back for an encore. The wheel landed on "Time," and he played "Clown Time Is Over," "Strict Time" and a cover of the Stones' "Out Of Time." Left again, then a second encore with just him, doing acoustic songs from the 1920s and '30s ("Brother, Can You Spare A Dime" among them). Left again, then a third encore where he and The Imposters played his biggest hits, including "Pump It Up," "Lipstick Vogue," "Watching The Detectives" and a marvellous version of "Peace, Love And Understanding." Also threw in covers of The Beatles' "Girl" and The Who's "Substitute" during the evening. I don't know what more I could have asked for from a con-cert. A truly enjoyable evening.
The Audience: Mainly in their forties and fifties, but up and dancing most of the night. You could tell it was composed of long-time fans, and Elvis rewarded them with a tour through the best of his back catalogue. And for the second concert in a row, no fuckwits!
Food & Drink: Blue Moon Wheat Beer was my choice for the night.
It Made Me Think: It is great to see an artist who really enjoys being up on stage, and appreciates his audience enough to play the songs they want to hear — even if some were chosen by chance!
