Sutherland Brothers and Quiver - 2 brief Bruce Thomas mentions

Soon after, "Monk" left ("Just sort of fizzled out," says Tim) and so did Isadore. Their replacements were Bruce Thomas, a fine bassist who had just left Peter Bardens' Village and had previously played in the Road Runners with Paul Rodgers, and drummer Willie Wilson who had just left cochise, a British country band featuring Mick Grabham and B.J. Cole. Quiver, meanwhile, had been trying to escape the country-band image. "We didn't mean it to be country styled. It just turned out that way. Cal had an American accent so people thought 'oh, American accent, two guitarists..bend a string and you're a country band.' Than we got Willie in from Cochise, which actually was a country band.'so there was more reason to think we were too." Quiver signed to Warner Brothers and did two albums, Quiver and Gone In the Morning.

It was at this point that much of the fate of the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver began to be determined by business hassles beyond the control of the group. For instance, Dream Kid was the last LP issued under Island's distribution deal with Capitol and due to this, the album never really got fully promoted. Later, the band came over to tour, which proved to be fairly disasterous both business-wise and aesthetically; again, cooing before Island had a chance to really set up its independent promotional operations over here. To make matters worse, Bruce Thomas had been asked to leave the band after what Iain describes as a "drunken row in Germany. On the road together there wag a lot of tension between him and myself."' Gav had played bass with the New Generation, but not for three years. Tex Comer of Ace did a couple of dates we *had to fulfill and the first few album ...
