Het podium deed eerder een kermisattractie dan een heus popconcert vermoeden. Tegen een bont gekleurd achterdoek prijkten een reusachtig rad van avontuur, een knus barretje met portable tv, een mini dansvloertje en wat rommelige geluidsapparatuur. Omgeven door dit decor bracht Elvis Costello 'The Spectacular Spinning Songbook' waarmee hij 25 jaar geleden ook op tournee ging. Op het rad staan veertig eigen nummers, hits en zelden gespeeld werk, die door het publiek met een forse raddraai op toeval gekozen worden.
Wie daardoor een retro-avondje verwachtte, kwam bedrogen uit. Immers, tegenwoordig is het mode om een comeback te forceren met het integraal naspelen van succesvolle albums dan wel gehele concerten.
