Stiffs Live

Rob Patterson

Are you ready for some Stiff music? This document of a tour by the top stars on Britain's premier new label is more of a party than an lp, featuring the most quirky collection of talent ever assembled. Especially enjoyable are Nick Lowe's two songs of no-nostalgia-rock roots (look for Nick's lp soon on Columbia), a short bit by Larry Wallis, and ol' Elvis Costello covering Burt Bacharach with flair and himself ("Miracle Man") with fury. The real winner here is Ian Dury, whose three song set (including the collective closer — "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll") merges tine eternal spirit of rock with the vision of a truly original artist.
