Elvis Costello to revive Spectacular Spinning Songbook

Setlist-selection gimmick to be featured on spring tour

Elvis Costello will revive his "Spectacular Spinning Songbook," a crowd-pleasing performance element in which fans select the show's repertoire, during a run of May concerts.

The 10-date "Revolver Tour" – which commences May 7 in Reno, NV, and includes stops at L.A.'s Wiltern Theatre (May 11) and New York's Beacon Theatre (May 22-23) – will allow selected audience members to determine the setlist by spinning a gigantic sideshow wheel bearing 40 song titles, including rarities and covers.

Fans who pick the tunes will be given the option of remaining onstage to either dance to the selection in the "Hostage to Fortune Go-Go Cage" or partake "light refreshments" in the "Society Lounge."

The Wheel of Fortune-style gimmick was used to great theatrical effect during Costello's expansive 1986 tour, in which he performed multiple-night stands – including five evenings at the now-razed Beverly Theatre in Beverly Hills — with two different bands (his original unit the Attractions and the all-star Confederates, featuring guitarist James Burton and other ex-members of Elvis Presley's band) and also appeared solo.

Costello's current back-up unit the Imposters, which will support him on the May jaunt, includes ex-Attractions Steve Nieve (keyboards) and Pete Thomas (drums), plus bassist Davey Faragher.
