Legendary Singer Records With Elvis Costello

The name "Solomon Burke" may not exactly ring a lot of bells with kids today, but the respected classic soul singer is about to get a boost that will undoubtedly make his next album a huge seller. It may still not win him any points with the kids, but fans of sophisticated pop music will be pleased to hear that some of the genres’ finest have banded together to provide the legendary Burke with an album of sure-fire hits.

Solomon’s upcoming album, Don’t Give Up On Me, will pack the kind of star power that’s usually only seen on hip hop albums. Songwriters including Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Nick Lowe, Brian Wilson, Joe Henry, Carole King and Elvis Costello have all provided Burke with songs for the new record. Reports haven’t indicated if the famous writers are allowing Burke to use old material or never-before-recorded songs, but either way, it should be a spectacular collection.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Burke revealed that Costello not only provided a song, but actually joined Burke in the studio to make sure everything went smoothly. Apparently, Burke, who was inducted into the Rock ’N’ Roll Hall Of Fame last year, is quite star-struck over the whole thing and even joked that he asked Costello for his autograph.

"Isn’t it fantastic," the singer told Rolling Stone. "Bob Dylan sent me a song, man. Carole King sent me a song. My mind is just blown that these people even knew me enough to send me a song."

To make the project even cooler, Don’t Give Up On Me will be released on the independent blues label Fat Possum. The album is due in July.
