"A packed house for the anti-landmine concert"

Emmylou Harris and Elvis Costello provided a good atmosphere in a packed Oslo Konserthus during the concert for a landmine free world.

The audience had been waiting in a long line to ensure that they´d got tickets for the concert, which main cause is to raise money to rid the world of landmines. A total of 1.400 got to hear the artists Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Nanci Griffith and John Prine.

Everyone Gets In
"By re-prioritising some artist-tickets, we managed to get everyone in who was standing in line for tickets. A packed house means a lot of money in the anti-landmine cause" says Hans Olaf Lohne, who is a production manager at Oslo Konserthus.

Every artist was onstage during the whole concert, ensuring that the audience got to hear a lot of great music. The cause is a serious one, of course, namely the curse of the landmines and the struggle to rid the world of them once and for all.

Fierce Appeal
Bobby Muller, who is the head of the "Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation", entered the stage in his wheelchair and made a fierce appeal where he encouraged everyone to support the struggle against landmines.

Muller pointed out the fact that the US terrorist attacks on September 11th and the subsequent war in Afghanistan have led to a further focus on the landmine problems. He also stated that every month 88 persons are maimed or killed by landmines in Afghanistan.

Oslo is the last of six European cities to receive a visit from these artists. They have previously been in Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, London and Stockholm.

Fullt hus under antiminekonsert

Emmylou Harris og Elvis Costello sørget for lun og god stemning i et fullsatt Oslo Konserthus under konserten for en verden uten landminer.

Publikum sto på forhånd i kø for å sikre seg billetter til arrangementet, som har til hensikt å samle inn penger til kampen mot landminer. Totalt fikk rundt 1.400 mennesker høre artistene Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Nancy Griffith og John Prine.

Alle kom inn
- Vi klarte til slutt å skaffe billett til alle som sto i kø, blant annet ved å omprioritere en del artistbilletter. Fulle hus betyr mange penger til kampen mot landminer, forteller Hans Olaf Lohne, som er produksjonsleder ved Oslo Konserthus.

Alle artistene var på scenen under hele konserten, og mye flott musikk ble derfor tilhørerne til del. Bak musikken lå imidlertid et alvorlig budskap, nemlig landminenes forbannelse mot menneskeheten og kampen for en verden uten landminer.

Sterk appell
Bobby Muller, som er leder i Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, holdt en sterk appell fra sin rullestol der han oppfordret alle til å støtte kampen mot landminer.

Muller pekte på at terroranslagene mot USA 11. september, og USAs militære svar i Afghanistan, hadde ført til økt fokus på landmineproblematikken Vietnam-veteranen pekte videre på at 88 personer hver eneste måned blir skadd eller drept av landminer i Afghanistan.

Oslo er den siste av seks europeiske storbyer som har besøk av stjernekobbelet. Tidligere har arrangementet vært innom Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, London og Stockholm.
