Elvis was desperate for another 'hit', and so Clive Langer & Alan Winstanley were
brought in to produce this record. Tne result was their best selling album since
Get Happy!! and the single Everyday I Write The Book became a top 40
hit in the US. However, he never seemed happy with the producers' deliberation and
attention to detail. It was such a contrast to the craziness of Nick Lowe.
"I gave myself over to a production sound on Punch The Clock & Goodbye Cruel World, and this sound hasn't dated too well" (EC). |
