The first verse hit the chords once each and let's them ring-- the first
chorus and after the chords are struck once on the first downbeat followed
by two half beats (a "one and two" syncopated count if you wasted
years as a high-school band-nazi)

E C#m E
You never asked me what I wanted. You only asked me why.
C#m E C#m E B E

        A E
I could say it was the nights when I was lonely
    A C#m
and you were the only one who'd come.
        A E
I could tell you that I like your sensitivity,

when you know it's the way that you walk.
A E
Why do you have to say that there's always someone

who can do it better than I can?

But don't you think that I know that walking on the water
      B n.c. B B B B B
won't make me a miracle man?

Baby's gotta have the things she wants.
               E C#m
You know she's gotta have the things she loves.

And I'm doing everything just tryin' to please her,
     A C#m
even crawling around on all fours.

No Dancing

tabbed by zeroy@netcom.com (Roy M. Randall)

        D A
Oh, I know that she has made a fool of him,
                 D
Like girls have done so many nights before,
          A
Time and time again.
              D A
Life is so strange. I don't know why,
         D Gm
But somebody, somebody has to cry.
                D A G D
There's gonna be no dancing when they get home.

                G A
There's gonna be no dancing, no,
                G A
There's gonna be no dancing,
                G A Bb D
There's gonna be no dancing when they get home.

Now he's telling her ev'ry little thing he's done.
Once he glanced at the jackets of some paperbacks.
Now he's read ev'ry one.
He's such a drag. He's not insane.
It's just that ev'rybody has to feel his pain.
There's gonna be no dancing when they get home.

Bb
He's getting down on his knees.
Dm Bb Dm
He finds that her brother's not so easy to please, oh, oh.
 Bb F
After all, his nights were just a paper striptease.
      A7sus4 A7
She's caught it like some disease.
           Tacit
If he says no dancing, there's gonna be no dancing,
                   G A Bb D
There's gonna be no dancing on my own.

She can't even speak to him. He can't face her now.
He says, "Even though I wanna shake your hand,
All I ever do is bow.
So now you see how it can be.
Why can't you give me ev'rything but sympathy?
                D A
There's gonna be no dancing,
                D A
There's gonna be no dancing,
                Bb F
There's gonna be no dancing,
                Bb F
There's gonna be no dancing
                Bb F
There's gonna be no dancing
                Bb F Eb D
There's gonna be no dancing on my own.

Blame It On Cain

tabbed by zeroy@netcom.com (Roy M. Randall)

G
Once upon a time, I had a little money.

Government burglars took it long before I could mail it to you.
                  C7
Still you are the only one.
                              G
Now, I can't let it slip away.
           D
So if the man with the ticker tape, he tries to take it,
D7 G
Well, this is what I'm gonna say:

             Em7 G
Blame it on Cain. Don't blame it on me.
                C D C G
Oh, oh, oh, it's nobody's fault, but we need somebody to burn.

Well, if I was a saint with a silver cup
And the money got low, we could always heat it up or trade it in.
But then the radio that heaven will be wired to your purse.
And then you can run down the wave band, coast to coast, hand in hand.
D7 C
Bad to worse, curse for curse, don't be disatisfied.
            D G
So, you're not satisfied.
            Em7 G
Blame it on Cain. Don't blame it on me.
                C D
Oh, oh, oh, it's nobody's fault,
        C G
But we need somebody to burn.

I think I've lived a little too long on the outskirts of town.
I think I'm goin' insane from talking to myself for so long.
Oh, but I never been accused.
When they step upon your face, you wear that good luck grin.
          D7
I gotta break out one weekend if I do somebody in.

But ev'ry single time I feel a little stronger,
      C D
They tell me it's a crime. Well how much longer?
            Em7 G
Blame it on Cain. Don't blame it on me.
                C D
Oh, oh, oh, it's nobody's fault,
        C G
But we need somebody to burn.
             Em7 G
Blame it on Cain. Don't blame it on me.
                C D
Oh, oh, oh, it's nobody's fault.
        C G
But it just seems to be his turn.

Now everybody's breakin' up somebody else's home,

I get you in my dreams.

Sneaky feeling, sneaky feelings,

Why don't we call it a day, and we can both confess.

You can force me to use a little tenderness.

(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes

From: William Vaughan

Intro E A E Esus4

E
Oh I used to be disgusted

          G#m
and now I try to be amused.

                E
But since their wings have got rusted,

              A B E
you know, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

e f# g# A E
But when they told me 'bout their side of the bargain,

              A E
that's when I knew that I could not refuse.

And I won't get any older, now the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

A B E
I was watching while you're dancing away.

B A E
Our love got fractured in the echo and sway.

A B E
How come everybody wants to be your friend?

G#m B
You know that it still hurts me just to say it.

E
Oh, I know that she's disgusted (oh why's that)

            G#m
Cause she's feeling so abused. (oh that's too bad)

         E
She gets tired of the lust, (oh I'm so sad)

            B
but it's so hard to refuse.

            A
How can you say that I'm too old,

         E B A E E Esus4 E
when the angels have stolen my red shoes.

A B E
Oh, I said "I'm so happy, I could die."

B A E
She said "Drop dead," then left with another guy.

A B E
That's what you get if you go chasing after vengeance.

G#m B
Ever since you got me punctured this has been my sentence.

*same as first four lines in first stanza and repeat on the chords for extra
lines*
Oh I used to be disgusted
and now I try to be amused.
But since their wings have got rusted,
you know, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.
Red shoes, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

Oswald and his sister are doing it again.
They got the finest home movies that you have ever seen.
They got a thousand variations: every service with a smile.
They're gonna take a little break, and they'll be back after a while.
Well, I hear that South America is coming back in style.

A pistol was still smoking, a man lay on the floor.
Mister Oswald said he had an understanding with the law.
He said he heard about a couple living in the U.S.A.
He said they traded in their baby for a Chevrolet.
Let's talk about the future; now we've put the past away.

Jenny takes her clothes off in succession
While her husband rides a bumper in the President's procession
She sees him on the screen as she looks up from giving head
When he's had enough of that, her lover throws her on the bed
To teach her she's alive, and suddenly he's dead.

Calling Mister Oswald, calling anyone at the scene.
If you were there taking home movies, there's a chance you might have
seen him.
They've got a thousand variations: every witness in a file.
Jenny puts on some coffee, and she comes back with a smile.
She says "I hear that South America is coming back into style."

A pistol was still smoking, a man lay on the floor.
Mister Oswald thought he had an understanding with the law.
She's got rubies on her fingers, Jenny turns and walks away.
Her mind upon a basement out of the U.S.A.
She says, "Let's talk about the future, now we've put the past away."

Mystery Dance

G5 F5
Romeo was restless, he was ready to kill.
   G5 F5
He jumped out the window 'cause he couldn't sit still.
G5
Juliet was waiting with a safety net.
F5 G5
He said, "Don't bury me, 'cause I'm not dead yet."

                                C
Why don't you tell me 'bout the mystery dance.
                       G
I wanna know about the mystery dance.

Why don't you show me,
            D C
'Cause I've tried and I've tried and I'm still mystified.
                                             F5
I can't do it anymore, and I'm not satisfied.

Well, I remember when the lights went out
And I was try'n' to make it look like it was never in doubt.
She thought that I knew, and I thought that she knew,
So both of us were willing, but we didn't know how to do it.

Well, I was down under the covers in the middle of the night,
Trying to discover my left foot from my right.
You can see those pictures in any magazine,
But what's the use of looking when you don't know what they mean?

Imagination (Is A Powerful Deceiver)

          E A

          E A
She'll be out again this evening, when you come around to call
    E C
So, you dodge the lady-killer, who came creepin' 'cross the floor

I'll go out of my mind, if I'm losing your touch

Note2: Some of the accents on the chords might be a little off; when I
converted
the document, it messed up the format, and I don't have my guitar handy.

Enjoy!

Subject: "Imagination" chords

I hate to say this, and I don't want to sound ungrateful for someone's
efforts, but the chords listed for the song "Imagination..." are way, WAY
oversimplified. If you had to play this song with just E, A, D, G, and C
chords, I suppose these versions would do...but the progressions are far more
involved than that.

***Example, posted version:

      E C
Well, did I see you in the circus, in the ring without a hand
        E A
Now you think that you can curse us, steal the show and stop the band

***The way I hear it:

  A E C
Well, did I see you in the circus, in the ring without a hand
         G#m C#m Bm E7 A
Now you think that you can curse us, steal the show and stop the band

***Posted version:

Imagination is a powerful deceiver
                  A D A
When you try to believe her just a little too much

E A D E
Imagination is a powerful deceiver
                  A D E
I'll go out of my mind, if I'm losing your touch

***The way I hear it:

E B C#m E/B A E
Imagination is a powerful deceiver
         G#m C#m D A
When you try to believe her just a little too much
G#m C#m A E
Imagination is a powerful deceiver
         A E A E
I'll go out of my mind, if I'm losing your touch

There are far too many D chords in the posted version -- the only
time there's actually a D chord is in the chorus ("...a little too much"),
and I can't find a G chord in the whole song to save me.

Subject: "real" chords to Imagination

After seeing a couple of posting regarding the chords to Imagination
I decided to try my hand at figuring them out because neither of the
versions I saw worked. I don't know if the writers guitars were out
of tune or what, but they definately are not the chords that EC is
playing on the recording. So at the risk of being severly flamed I
will post my version of the chords. I don't think they are perfect
by any means, but if you play these chords along with the recording
at least it will sound like the same song.

          D G
So you're trying to make connection, you heard whispers in the hall
          D F#m Bm D Dm G
She'll be out again this evening, when you come around to call
        D F#m Bm D A#
So, you dodge the lady-killer, who came creepin' 'cross the floor
          D F#m Bm D Dm G
The you caught up in a whirlwind, you got blown right out the door
                   D A#
Oh, yes it was a whirlwind, sweet romance was on your side
D G
If you wanna dance on my face, you must tell me why you lied
D F#m Bm G D
Imagination is a powerful deceiver
         F#m Bm C G
When you try to believe her just a little too much
D F#m Bm G D
Imagination is a powerful deceiver
         G D G D
I'll go out of my mind, if I'm losing your touch

Then the second part is the same as the first, except for the ending.
The weird thing about this song is that while it sounds like it doesn't
flow right on the recording, when you are playing and singing the tune
it sounds perfect, and it's tons of fun to play. If these chords work
for you, experiment with adding in the bass line, you will find that
much of the bass line can be played without having to use alternate
fingerings for the chords.

Enjoy

so be prepared to sweep me out the door,
      G C
and i might be horizontal by the time the evening ceases,
     D G
so i think i'll get acquainted with the floor.
          B C
but i was trying to get away from the things i usually do,
   D G D
"hello floorboards, once again, how are you?"

Chorus
------
    G C
lip service, well that's all you'll ever get from me.
   D G D
how could you believe i'd take you seriously?
     G C
with your cheap rewards, your blackmail and your comical rage,
     D G
just remember that you'll only be the boss as long you pay my wage.

Well all the signposts on this road they all point one way,
don't act like you're above me, just look at your shoes.
i'll turn the light out now 'cause there's nothing left to say,
and it's all been lost before so there's nothing left to lose.
           B C
oh but you could say that you loved me very painlessly
             D G D
i would have done the same for you but you said to me.....

Chorus

Jump Up

Wave A White Flag

Poison Moon
