Note - For the rhythm part, you can just play the first chord. The
second one given is actually just a very prominent note in the
bassline. It sounds fine when you play it in the first key (G), but
sounds a little odd once the band switches to E. Does that make any
sense?
Also, if there's any problem, please let me know at -

Thank you! Enjoy!

(And it's the latest thing)
In and out of matrimony, never once removed the Sony

Notes: This one took me quite some time to find out something close to
what's going on in the chorus - I still haven't got it all figured out.
However, it's one of my favourite songs ever, so I sort of feel a need
to put it up on the page. If anyone can come up with a better
transcription, please let me know at bgreenstein@nctimes.net. The
following information is really just to give you a starting point.
And, by the way - "The Murder Mystery" referred to in the lyrics is an
old Velvet Underground song that has Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison
narrating separate stories simultaneously from the separate stereo
channels (most fans think of it as a failed experiment). I don't know
what EC's reference to this means, I just thought I'd let you all know.
Take care!

The toughest part about this song is trying to figure out the lyric.
It's a rough approximation on my part, which means that most of it is
nonsense or left out altogether, but either way, here it is (I hate
those tabs that just say "B-A-E-F#m repeat", so I included lyrics,
however brutal). Playing-wise, it's fairly simple and this arrangement
works well playing solo. Corrections or questions, please feel free
to e-mail me. Enjoy.

Intro: D
D
I made my selection from the lonely hit parade in the town where time stood still
D Em
I was feeling very little pain until some joker played "Almost Persuaded"
D G
Now every girl I see looks so much prettier to me; my faithfulness has faded
Bm G
And their looks established daggers and the conversation heated.
Em C
Since the boys had all been late I found them walking round defeated
D
In the town where time stood still
A D G
Somebody in charge must have pretended the future's been suspended
Bm G
And I say I don't want trouble, but I find myself back in it
Em C
In the town where time stood still I am the man of the minute
D
Teach me to say "I love you" I'll teach you to say "You will do"
In the town where time stood still
D Em
A way (?) that I can find a little girl to wind me up with all the usual spells
D
There's nothing else to do but rearrange somebody's future
G
And check your figures in the till
Bm G
The bar is full of girls just like the creature with the curse
Em C
And the food is just like cabaret and vice versa
D
In the town where time stood still
A D G
Just as my heart (went down) sinking I found the town was shrinking
Bm G
And suddenly I saw her through the smoke and empty beers
Em C D
In the town where time stood still she might have well have waited years
Bm Dm A
Now I suppose we did some things we used to do
E A7
But no amount of darkness could ever turn her into you
D
And so I woke up in the town where time stood still
With a headache and a heartache and a handful of pills
D G
A welcome mat, a scandal rag and unpaid bills
Bm G
With her head inside her handbag, the sign says "please wait to be seated"
Em C
I only want a cup of coffee I know you can't have your cake and eat it
D
In the town where time stood still
A D G
Did you hear the news today? It's all bad; they'll be howling after sunset
Bm G
With a headache and a heartache and an hour or two to kill
Em C C/B C/A C/G C C/B C/A C/G
I only wish we were together...
D
