Elvis in form

Nigel Gould

Elvis Costello, Waterfront Hall

In an age where pop is shamelessly polluted by dodgy cover version artists and an endless stream of bubblegum banality, how refreshing it is to know that the true genius of Elvis lives on.

That Elvis - Costello that is, of course - is still a big attraction, is testimony to the great man's phenomenal musical strength in depth.

And last night at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, Ulster fans sampled a memorable slice of that famed versatility. Spike simply oozed class - and if anything he's got better since his last visit here a full 10 years ago.

The local crowd this time were treated to an exciting two-hour acoustic amalgam of tunes spanning a 21-year career.
