COPENHAGEN - The British pop musician Elvis Costello wrote an opera about the feelings harbored the Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen for Swedish soprano Jenny Lind. He does this at the request of the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen.
 
Andersen wrote a number of songs for Lind, form the basis for the opera, 'The Secret Arias "will be called. Andersens feelings for Lind, the Swedish Nightingale was called, were not answered. It is believed that Andersen's fairy tale "The Nightingale" with Lind wrote in mind.
 
The opera is staged next year in the small hall of the new opera house in Copenhagen, which last week was opened. Then probably follow an international tour, a CD and DVD. This autumn Costello plays the songs from the opera itself already in the Opera House.
 
Denmark this year commemorates the bicentennial of the birth of Andersen, who was born on April 2, 1805 in the Danish city of Odense. He died in 1875.

De opera wordt volgend jaar opgevoerd in de kleine zaal van het nieuwe operahuis van Kopenhagen, dat vorige week werd geopend. Daarna volgen waarschijnlijk een internationale tournee, een cd en dvd. Komende herfst speelt Costello de nummers uit de opera al zelf in het operahuis.

Denemarken herdenkt dit jaar de tweehonderdste geboortedag van Andersen, die op 2 april 1805 werd geboren in de Deense stad Odense. Hij overleed in 1875.
