Costello looks to his Tower date

Tom McClintock

As Elvis Costello and his armed forces trek across the country before their April 7 stop at the Tower, the most successful of the "intellectual" new wave rockers hasn't missed a chance to knock just about everything he can about U.S. music and mores.

So far he hasn't liked any of the halls he's played, nor the crowds. Not meaning to leave anything out, he has even managed to bad-mouth Ray Charles. One source did tell me, however, that Elvis has said he is actually looking forward to his Tower Theater date. He should; this area has had a strong Costello cult for quite some time. His other appearances at the Hot Club and the Tower were quite well received.
