Two other albums recently released are Elvis Costello's My Aim is True (Columbia, JC 25037) and Jackson Browne's Running on Empty (Asylum, SE-113).
"Elvis is still alive" was the pre-release publicity for Costello's album. If that was meant to imply that Costello sounded like, or could replace, Presley, then the hype is dead wrong: much the same way that the hype for Bruce Springsteen being the '70s version of Dylan was wrong.
Costello sounds much like Springsteen and looks a little like Buddy Holly, but he does not have the potential to do what Presley did for rock in the '50s and '60s.
The best songs on the album are the opener, "Welcome to the Working Week," "Less than Zero" and "Alison," a love ballad, Others include "Miracle Man," "Watching the Detectives," "Waiting for the End of the World" and seven others.
If you like Springsteen, you'll probably like Costello — if not, check out the Jackson Browne album, it's real fine!
