Jetzt "Secret, Profane & Sugarcane", das Nashville-Album, mit T-Bone Burnett am Steuerruder, Stuart Duncan an Fiddle und Banjo, Jerry Douglas am Dobro, Mike Compton an der Mandoline und Tannenhonig in der Stimme. Dem geneigten Kooks-Hörer unter 25 fällt also spätestens jetzt der Wodka Red Bull aus der Hand, denn uncooler geht es praktisch nicht. Doch natürlich ist "Secret, Profane & Sugarcane" wieder eine feine Elvis-Platte geworden, mit dem bitteren "She Handed Me A Mirror" (in dem ein Frauenzimmer dem unglücklich verliebten Schriftsteller als Begründung für ihre Zurückweisung einfach einen Spiegel überreicht), der Bing-Crosby-Nummer "Changing Partners" und dem grandios gefiedelten "I Dreamed Of My Old Lover".
