Elvis Costello and Steve Nieve
Waterfront Hall, Belfast
Wes Scott
The concert was held in the Waterfront Hall. It was a superb show. Elvis was in excellent voice throughout. Is he the most underrated singer today? Steve's piano work was incredible. The night far exceeded my expectations. It was the first time he had played Belfast in ten years, since the Spike tour. I thought he was much better at this concert.
I am still stunned by EC's brilliance at the show. Such power and expression in his voice. On occasions at the end of songs he stepped away from the microphone to give a fading effect — stunning on "Temptation." He was in good form, bantering with the audience and telling one particularly amusing story from his last time in Belfast. He even conducted us in singing along to "Jackie Wilson Said" — very apt in Van's hometown. He seemed to really enjoy himself and was given several well deserved standing ovations. I hope he
comes back shortly.
