40 years on - and Elvis begins to hit the big time in the U.K. The Live Stiffs Live tour has begun and, at first there are 5 bands taking turns to share the headlining act but it soon becomes apparent that only The Attractions and The Blockheads with their respective leaders have what it takes to satisfactorily finish off the shows. These two shows are from the early stages of the tour when Larry Wallis, Wreckless Eric and Nick Lowe's bands were taking a share of the evening and so both Elvis and Ian are having relatively short sets to perform. The Glasgow show is incomplete, lacking the last 3 songs (so if anyone has the complete show, please let me know or upload that here) and has a few tape issues such as some wobble on Blame It On Cain which I've edited out in the sample included. The audience is noisy but it seems a slightly better quality show than the Leeds performance recorded 2 days later. This is a complete show and has less audience noise but seems a little dull in comparison.
I don't know when the decision was made to give Ian and Elvis the lion's share of the evening but later recordings of Elvis on this tour suggest he's playing 45 to 60 minute sets rather than 30 minute ones.
Once again, many thanks to the traders who, over the years have dealt kindly with me and enabled me to build up my Elvis Costello live collection and, again a plea that if anyone has any shows not listed so far, please share them - it's music after all, made to be heard not kept in a glass cabinet and admired.
