40 years on ............................. Another audience recording of fairly low fidelity but again featuring a setlist with a heavy bias towards new or rarely heard material ( until this series of concerts). The mix is somewhat better than the show from Stockholm the night before and if anything, Steve's keyboards are almost subsumed by the remaining members of the Attractions and Elvis' guitar work is much more to the fore especially in "Detectives" and the solo in "Fish 'n' Chip Paper" where he plays the solo brilliantly and is followed by the faint organ solo before resuming the final verse. Although the sound is less boomy than the Stockholm show, there is a fair amount of audience chatter which mars some of the songs in particular during the quieter melodies. The gig kicks off with a more predictable kickoff with "Beaten To The Punch" and, like many of the "Get Happy!!" tracks, it's Bruce's bass that performs as the lead instrument. Before "Two Little Hitlers", Elvis comments that the locals have finally managed to buy a roof for the place referring back to the concert in 1978 which was disrupted by a fire alarm and suggesting it may have been open air in that time. "White Knuckles" is differentiated slightly from other recordings by a little bass riff by Bruce right at the end and Elvis then states that his voice isn't quite so good due to the cold weather - welcome to Sweden in November! The songs follow a similar flow to the previous night from then onwards with a slightly longer snippet of "I've Been Born Again" prefacing "King Horse" and the one concession to fans who would only know the hits is the insertion of "Watching The Detectives" which has a timely and magnificent interpolation of Stevie Wonder's "Masterblaster" fitting the reggae groove perfectly. This would remain throughout the 1981 tours of both the U.S. and the U.K. "Luxembourg" is played as the first encore and is a guitar and bass tour de force with only a little keyboard work audible at the end and the gig concludes with "Pump It Up". For most of these shows, I cannot recall at all where I first sourced them but I'm guessing these came from either the "French connection" of M. Ricard or possibly from some long lost contact from the ECIS days. Many thanks to whoever first recorded this and then to those who traded so freely (and cheaply compared to modern postage costs) for sharing this. I'm not sure if this has been available here on dime before so I've suggested at least that this is probably a reseed. Forgive me if this isn't the case!
