40 years on ............................................. Another decent audience recording and one of the longest shows on this particular tour although there is an ambiguity on the setlist and the recording that I have. I have scoured all I can find (ECIS, wiki, Richard G's "Going Through The Motions") and all suggest that the song "Two Steps From The Blues" is played between "Peace, Love And Understanding" and "Shipbuilding". however I had two sources, one of which I received in trade in the early 80s and one which I found at a Record Fair in Birmingham in the West Midlands in the late 90s which the vendor assured me was a 2nd generation from his cousin's recording. Both of these did NOT have the aforementioned track. I tend to agree with the vendor if only because he had a huge range of ROIO from Wolverhampton, Dudley, Stafford and Stoke which seemed to be predominantly Heavy Metal but which also featured popular bands from the late 70s and 80s. I only wish I'd bought some of The Jam shows that I recall seeing there. This all leads me to decide not to call this incomplete and to postulate that the setlist which included this tracks ("Two Steps") wasn't in fact actually played at all. Unless anyone knows differently. I guess it could have been missed around the time of a tape flip but ................... Elvis says something about having a pretty good time the last time they were there (in Wolverhampton in 1981) and elicits a pretty good cheer. There's a funny minor chord by Steve in "Shabby Doll" as Elvis sings the line "He's all Pride and no joy". "Town Cryer" is brought into the set quite early on too and has a lovely different feel to the intro to "And In Every home" yet again. The first tape flip occurs at the end of "Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down" and there's a bit lost at the end of this and at the start of "Everyday I Write The Book". Steve plays the pre-programmed "ice cream van" synth music at the end of "Pump It Up". As I said, it's hard to tell if there is an edit between "PLU" and "Shipbuilding" but there is a lot of heckling as Elvis introduces the latter before he starts - it almost seems like he gives up saying anything and just ploughs on with the song. Both "Slippin' And Slidin'" and "(I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea" are surprises late into the encores just before the closing "Clowntime Is Over" which starts with an intro by Steve that sounds like he's playing the mighty Wurlitzer at Blackpool's Tower Ballroom rather than the usual church organ effect.
