Elvis Costello & The Imposters
Forest Hills Stadium, New York
Fredda Gordon
What a great show at Forest Hills Stadium in Forest Hills, NY! First Blondie opens and then, when the sun went down, Elvis Costello came on with his distinctive voice singing "Pump it Up" and he did just that. He continued to sing classics including "Accidents Will Happen," "Watching The Detectives," "Alison," "Look of Love," and so many others. He also performed some new music. One of the songs was from a new musical that will be out next year. Costello gave a quick synopsis before singing the soulful song with his two wonderful backup singers, Kitten Kuroi and Briana Lee. He was flanked by the Imposters which were anything but. Steve Nieve (keyboards), Pete Thomas (drums) and Davey Faragher (bass) who were strong and solid throughout the night. They all added to the fullness of the sound together with the lights flashing created a classic night of rock music.
He appropriately ended the show with "Peace, Love and Understanding," which was happily stuck in my head while leaving the Forest Hills Stadium. I'm on the train as I write this and someone is playing one of Costello's songs on his cell phone and I want to be back in Forest Hills Stadium listening to him live.
