DEN HAAG (ANP) — Omdat popzanger Elvis Costello even na tienen gisteravond geen toegift wilde brengen na zijn optreden in het Haagse Congresgebouw, heeft een gedeelte van de 1500 mensen in de Prins Willem Alexander-zaal met vernielingen een schade aangericht van naar schatting 25.000 gulden.

Er werden circa zeventig stoelen in de zaal vernield, deuren kapotgemaakt, ramen ingegooid en men wierp een grote hoeveelheid bierblikjes in de richting van het podium. De organisatie liet daarop het brandscherm zakken.

De politie verrichtte buiten het Congresgebouw acht arrestaties. De betrokkenen, die openlijk geweld hadden betoond, werden meegenomen naar het politiebureau.
