It had some muffled wow and flutter issues in a couple of places either from the recording itself or a higher generation tape copy. I knew, due to my love of early Elvis shows, I had likely traded for a copy back in the early 1980’s and luckily the archives produced a workable copy free of any wow and flutter. It is clearly from a lower generation copy though I do not know the exact lineage. Overall it is a much cleaner recording than the circulating version, fuller with more punch and no hiss. My version did run fast but is properly pitched to the correct speed. The version did have one other issue, strangely it cut off on Lip Service at about the minute mark, I took the last 1:24 from the recently shared version and putting to use the eq match function in iZotope patched the missing bit. It’s a seamless transition but you will notice a slight quality change. This is Elvis’s second Scotland appearance playing Edinburgh the previous night. I did some research on the Maniqui in Falkirk. It was originally known as Doak’s Ballroom were the local’s would come to dance to the sounds of local big bands and any kissing would get you ejected from the dance. 1972 saw a name change to Maniqui and in 1977-1978 it hosted many of the up and coming punk/new wave bands of the day. For the cover, I incorporated the flyer for the show which advertises The Boomtown Rats playing there on the 8th and this show featuring “plus support” probably a hodgepodge of local talent “and disco” (I’m guessing kissing was now allowed). This version, though being at the mercy of the recording equipment of the time and the cramped conditions, is quite listenable and enjoyable. It’s a fine snapshot of one sweat filled night during Elvis Costello and the Attractions first tour. Thanks to dime member “area51GM” for the recent share that prompted me to dig into the archives and for the encouragement to share my version. Mjk5510
