U2, Elvis Costello, The Pogues and Van Morrison are among artists who appear on the Live for Ireland charity album, due out on November 16.
The album, recorded at last year's massive Self-Aid concert in Dublin, also featured tracks by Clannad, Christy Moore, Thin Lizzy, Chris Rea, Chris De Burgh, The Boomtown Rats, In Tua Nua and Cactus World News.
U2's contribution is on the only recording available of their version of Bob Dylan's "Maggie's Farm," while Elvis Costello and the Attractions tackle Jimmy Cliff's classic "Many Rivers To Cross."
The show marked the last live appearance of Bob Geldof's now defunct Boomtown Rats, who contribute "Lookin' After Number One."
Modelled on Live Aid, the Self-Aid show last May used nearly 30 Irish bands to help highlight Ireland's chronic unemployment problem. All royalties from the album go to the Self-Aid Trust to encourage job-creation schemes.
MCA Records are also releasing an Irish-issue only, 28-track double album of the concert. It will feature one track by each of the bands who appeared – including The Chieftains, Moving Hearts, Rory Gallagher and Paul Brady – plus a different Elvis Costello and the Attractions track, their version of the Beatles' "Leave My Kitten Alone."
An MCA spokesman told NME that import copies of the double album will be easily available in British Record shops.
