Elvis, Pretenders headline festivals

NME

Elvis Costello & The Attractions and The Pretenders are the headliners of the fifth Macroom Festival in County Cork, which the organisers claim to be the biggest-ever line-up for an Irish festival. The whole event runs for ten days, but the two open-air rock concerts are on Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28. The full billing is Costello & The Attractions, The Blues Band, The Undertones, The Moondogs and The Rhythm Kings (Saturday); The Pretenders, Q-Tips, Paul Brady Band, Sniff 'n' The Tears and Scullion (Sunday). Ticket prices are £8 (Saturday), £7 (Sunday) and £12 (weekend).

Three of these acts — Costello, The Pretenders and The Undertones — also appear the following weekend in Belgium's top event, The Rock & Blues Festival. It plays at two different sites on successive days, Torhout (July 4) and Werchter (5). And completing the impressive line-up are Dire Straits, Toots & The Maytals and Robert Palmer.
