Chris zooms in on success...

Paul Huddleston

Photographer Chris Gabrin is finding his work getting plenty of exposure these days.

For the former Guthlaxton Grammar School pupil has taken the photographs for current top selling albums by Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe.

Twenty-eight-year-old Chris whose parents run the Chandler's Arms at Shearsby, was in Leicester recently to see the Costello show at De Montfort Hall.

His sleeve work in collaboration with partner Barney Bubbles, has had him following Elvis to New York and Belfast.

Other works include sleeves for the notorious punk rock band The Damned, as well as Ian Dury and originally Brinsley Schwarz.

Chris once worked in Young's Camera Shop, Leicester, after leaving Guthlaxton, before he went on to art college in Bournemouth.

Later he worked as an assistant at a flash advertising firm in Chelsea, but found himself more and more involved in the rock business.

He once managed Clancy, and was responsible, he tells me, for the reformation of that great R&B unit the Pirates.

Now he's stepped aside from management to concentrate on work behind the lens.

I'm afraid I couldn't get a photo of him for you. "I hate being photographed," Chris admitted. "I'm terribly camera shy."

Ah well. There you go.
