A new full-length album is on the way that has a number of generations excited. Slated for a release sometime around Tuesday, 17th September Wise Up Ghost sees the legendary talents of Elvis Costello conducted in harmony with the genius of the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon house band, The Roots.
The band’s frontman ?uestlove first mentioned an album between the two parties was in the works earlier this year. In an interview he also mentioned the record was produced by Steven Mandel whose no stranger to the ebb and flow of The Roots. As though it was hard to imagine Wise Up Ghost could feature anymore class acts, it’s also been confirmed that La Santa Cecilia lead vocalist, La Marisoul, will also have a spot on the album.
Both Costello and ?uestlove have commented further on the release, though as these are some pretty far-out dudes, they leave a lot of room for interpretation. Costello describes the album in the press release as, “the shortest distance between here and there” incorporating, “both rhythm and what is read.” While ?uestlove elaborates, “It’s a moody, brooding affair, cathartic rhythms and dissonant lullabies. I went stark and dark on the music, Elvis went HAM on some ole Ezra Pound shit.”
The full-length album is the end result of a one-off gig that left everyone wanting more. Costello appeared on the show for a performance, which ?uestlove has since described as, “love at first sight.”
No Australian date has been locked in for the release yet, but that is sure to come soon.
