Elvis Costello has recorded a version of Sleeper’s hit “What Do I Do Now?”.
Costello has thus returned the compliment Sleeper paid him by covering his song “The Other End Of The Telescope”, for one of the bonus tracks on his single “All This Useless Beauty”.
A spokesman for Sleeper said last week: “He recorded it two weeks ago, and it’s gorgeous. He’s slowed it down and done it acoustically, and it really brings out what a strong song it is.”
It’s not yet clear when Costello’s version of “What Do I Do Now?” will be released, but Sleeper’s version of “The Other End Of The Telescope” gets a second airing on one of the CD formats of the band’s new single “Statuesque” , released by Indolent on September 16. The other bonus tracks on that CD are a Steve Lamacq remix of “Statuesque and a Wubble U mix of Sleeper’s Blondie cover, “Atomic”. The seven-inch and the other CD both feature the previously unreleased “She’s A Sweetheart”. Another new song, “Spies”, is included on the second CD.
